How do I add an incentive to a user interview?

This article discusses Incentives for legacy studies, which are only available to some customers that joined before August 2023. We've migrated most of the functionality into our newer, AI-powered studies. For more details on how to create a study using our new AI-powered study builder, see this section of our help center.

How do I add an incentive?

To include an incentive for a research session the incentive must be added inside the user interview study block on the Incentive tab. An incentive can be processed in two ways:

  1. Managed by you (available to all plans) - these incentives are sent by you outside of Wondering and so you can choose to reward your participants however you want.

  2. Via Tremendous (Enterprise plan only) - these incentives can be sent with one click inside Wondering. Tremendous will then offer geographically appropriate redemption options.

How is this displayed to potential participants?

If you add an incentive to your study, this will be communicated to the participant automatically in the Wondering widget and/or the scheduling page (depending on how you recruit your participant):

To issue the incentive after you've completed your moderated interview, simply head to the summary screen for the session and press "Send $x incentive" to automatically email the incentive to the participant:

Wondering can be used to keep track of incentives that you send yourself. To mark an incentive as sent head to the summary screen for the session and press "Mark $x incentive as sent".
