If you're participating in a study on Wondering and see the error message below, it's because you're trying to record an audio response on Wondering, but Wondering isn't able to access your microphone properly.
This guide covers how to fix this issue. Before you start, make sure:
Select the correct input microphone on your computer in your system settings.
Check that your computer's Bluetooth settings are correctly connected and devices are turned on if you're using a Bluetooth connected speaker.
Allow Wondering to access your microphone
To access your microphone so that you can record an audio response in a Wondering study, Wondering needs permission. The first time you try to record an audio response you'll be asked to give Wondering permission to access your microphone.
To allow Wondering to use your microphone, select "Always on every visit".
Allow your browser to access your microphone
If you can't see the permissions pop-up above, you may need to give Wondering permission to access your microphone in your browser.
Check your site permissions in Chrome
If you're using Chrome as your browser, you must allow the browser to access your microphone, and then grant Wondering permission to access your microphone. To grant permission again:
In the Chrome address bar, enter
chrome://settings/content/microphone
Under "Default behaviour", select "Sites can ask to use your microphone".
If present, under "Allowed to use your microphone", next to "https://app.wondering.com:443", click Delete:
Refresh the Wondering page.
When prompted, grant microphone access.
Allow microphone access on other browsers
Allow your system or device to access your microphone

On your computer, select Start > Settings.

Enable microphone access on Linux
On your device, open Sound settings.
Click Input.
Select the microphone device setting.
Make sure that the microphone is on.
To change the volume, move the volume slider.
Click OK.
Enable microphones access on Chromebook
On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time > Settings.
On the left, select Security and privacy > Privacy controls.
Turn on Microphone access.
